Will it be more painful to be hit by ice cubes or water?
Of course,it is ice cubes as they are 'harder' than water.
Water does not really hurt if thrown at you unless with a great
force,while ice cubes will surely hurt you if thrown at you.

Will the water level change if ice is left inside the water?

Yes,it will increase as after the ice
melts,it becomes water and adds on to the volume of the water
so the volume increases.So,after the ice melts,the water level
would most likely increase.
